Residential Single - Shortlist

Orde was shortlisted in the Residential Single category at the 2022 IDEA Awards.

Designed for long-term clients transitioning from a large family residence, the project reimagines a dated semi into a considered harbour home. Drawing on a pared-back Belgian aesthetic, the interior forms a quiet backdrop for a curated collection of well-worn, much-loved pieces.

The layout was fundamentally reworked to improve flow across four levels. Staircases were merged and recast in folded steel plate, forming an origami-like structure, while floor-to-ceiling glazing and a suspended steel framework open the home to light and volume. Steel-framed openings sharpen the architectural language, set against tumbled stone, handmade tiles and softened finishes.

A restrained, monochromatic palette underpins the space, where structure and softness are held in balance. Defined by rhythm, light and shadow, the project reflects a refined residential approach where simplicity is carefully resolved.
